Unstable groups of galaxies

The observed relationship between mass-luminosity ratios for groups and clusters of galaxies and their population is interpreted on basis of a model developed by the author (1968) in which unstable groups of galaxies are thought to be the result of the fragmentation of a parent galaxy.
