The principal chemical compounds found in flowers are essential oils, salicilic acid, carotenoids, flavonoids, tannins and triterpenic saponins.Other medicinal plants that present flavonoids in his composition have also been used as ansiolitic and analgesic. In this work the activity of calendula was evaluated on the central nervous system, with models of sleep induced by barbiturates, rota rod and open field. Subacute toxicity was evaluated in rats in metabolic cages. Central depressive effect was observed, with decrease of the spontaneous movement. Hypoglycemic effect was observed but signs of subcute toxicity were not evidenced.
