Biological and archaeological information in coprolites from an early site in Patagonia
The analysis of 5 coprolites from Cueva las Buitreras, Santa Cruz, Argentina, associated with lithic artifacts and faunal remains of modern and extinct species from the lower level of the site from a layer with a relative date of 10-8.5 yrs ka, indicate that one of of human origin and the other 4 we...

description |
The analysis of 5 coprolites from Cueva las Buitreras, Santa Cruz, Argentina, associated with lithic artifacts and faunal remains of modern and extinct species from the lower level of the site from a layer with a relative date of 10-8.5 yrs ka, indicate that one of of human origin and the other 4 were belonged to an omnivorous carnivore. These contained coprophagus beetles, Taurocerastes patagonicus, and herbivore beetles, Caeonorhynus lineatus, as well as rodent teeth from a field mouse, Akodon xanthorhinus. Taken together with other faunal remains from the site and available environmental data, this does not confirm or contradict the broad environmental evidence for southern patagonia for this time period. |
