Instead of using a factorial design for studying water sorption characteristics and its assumption of homogeneity of variances among cells, a multivariate statistical analysis approach is presented. This considers interactions and heterogeneous variances and leads to simultaneous comparisons of all aw levels. By applying this approach to a study of the water sorption characteristics of Argentine sorghum, significant differences were obtained between hybrids with the conclusion that they should not be mixed in storage.
