Sumario: | The steroids from the roots of Mandevilla pentlandiana were analysed. Six Δ20-steroids and four 6-keto-5α-stanols, novel as natural products, were isolated and characterized by spectroscopic methods. The plant also produces cardenolide glycosides, for which 20-hydroxysterols are known to be biosynthetic precursors. The hydroxylated derivatives have not been detected, but Δ20-derivatives, closely related to them, may be involved in that metabolic pathway. © 1991. |
