The taxonomic treatment includes keys to species, descriptions, synonyms, illustrations, ecological observations and distribution maps. At present, 10 taxa are recognized and treated for Argentina: Alstroemeria andina Phil. subsp. venustula Ehr. Bayer, A. apertiflora Baker, A. aurea Graham, A. bakeri Pax, A. isabellana Herb., A. patagonica Phil., A. presliana Herb., A. pseudospathulata Ehr. Bayer, A. psittacina Lehm. and A. pygmaea Herb. The probable occurrence in our country of A. spathulata C. Presl and A. pallida Graham is pointed out. A. inodora Herb. is a new synonym of A. psittacina Lehm. A. bakeri and the name A. hassleriana are here lectotypified. Morphological data of taxonomical value are discussed. The most important interespecific differences are found in the floral characters. The presence or absence of resupination in the leaf, the plant height and the characteristics of the inflorescence are also of importance. Fil:Sanso, A.M. Universidad de Buenos Aires.
