Sumario: | Chacantuceras gen. nov. (type species: Neocosmoceras ornatum Olivero 1983) is proposed to embrace some Late Valanginian trituberculate neocomitid ammonites from the Neuquén and Austral basins that have been assigned previously either to the mid Berriasian genus Neocosmoceras or to the Early Hauterivian form Acanthodiscus. Chacantuceras is common in the upper part of the Pseudofavrella angulatiformis Zone of the Neuquén Basin. Its occurrence there provides a rare faunal link with the Austral Basin, from where the type species was first described. © 1998 Asociación Geológica Argontina. |
