Organic-walled microphytoplankton from the lower section of the Santa Maxima formation, upper carboniferous, Argentina

Organic-walled microfossils are described from the lower section of the Santa Maxima Formation, Upper Carboniferous, Argentina. Two taxa are identified: Leiosphaeridia sp. and Veryhachium trispinosum (Eisenack 1938) Deunff 1954. Originally placed in Sylvanidium Loeblich 1969 and Villosacapsula Loebl...

Originally placed in Sylvanidium Loeblich 1969 and Villosacapsula Loeblich and Tappan 1976 on the basis of bearing an apparent spinose vesicle wall now proved to be psilate, the veryhachid specimens of the unit are formally transferred to Veryahachium trispinosum. Comparisons with other marine, mainly Gondwanian, palynofloras of similar age, are discussed. Fil:Ottone, E.G. Universidad de Buenos Aires. Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales; Argentina.
