Monosaccharide analyses, metliylation data, spectroscopy and fractionation by anion-excliange chromatography show that, although κ/ι-carrageenans are the main components of the cystocarpic products, other polysaccharides like agarans, mannans, xylans, an α-(1 → 6)-glucan, and other glucans are minor-to-trace constituents of the matrices of this seaweed.
