Particular attention is paid to the difference between curves of the zeroth order cross-polarization reflection coefficients Rsp and Rps versus angle of incidence, a quantity that, if not zero, indicates asymmetry of the grating grooves. The results presented here show that, due to the high conductivity of aluminium, differences between cross-polarization coefficients are small, except at those conical configurations where polarization conversion is most enhanced through the excitation of surface plasmons.
