Flower phases and flower visitors of Vigna longifolia were studied in Parque Rivadavia (Concordia, Entre Rios Province, Argentina). Flowers are flat-blossom in structure, although the alighting place is the left-hand wing petal. Standard and wings (yellow) are attractive to visitors. Under UV lighti...

Flowers are flat-blossom in structure, although the alighting place is the left-hand wing petal. Standard and wings (yellow) are attractive to visitors. Under UV lighting each floral part exhibits a different color (in violet range) which changes from phase to phase. Four floral phases were recognized. Amongst the three flower visitors observed, Megachile sp. is the only one that triggers the pollen transfering and stigma exposing mechanism. Ants (Camponotus sp.) visited extrafloral nectaries continually, keeping flower visitors away most of the time. This species is facultative xenogamous-facultative autogamous. -from English summary Fil:Hoc, P.S. Universidad de Buenos Aires.
