Alkaline and sub-alkaline dykes form the western part of Sierra de Fiambala. Catamarca. Argentina

Volcanic rocks including sub-alkaline andesitic and rhyolitic dykes and alkaline basaltic dykes and sills crop out in the western part of the Sierra de Fiambalá, province of Catamarca, Argentina. Sub-alkaline rocks are peraluminous, high K and enriched in Rb and Th. less so in Nb and Ta and slightly...

Sub-alkaline rocks are peraluminous, high K and enriched in Rb and Th. less so in Nb and Ta and slightly enriched in light rare earths. They are geochemically similar to Los Ratones granite and probably genetically related to it. The alkaline rocks have geochemical characteristics typical of continental rift magmatism. They derived from different sources with a low degree of melting, and probably are contaminated with amphibolite facies rocks. These rocks are post-Carboniferous in age and have petrological characteristics very similar to those of the volcanic rocks produced by Late Permian-Jurassic intraplate magmatism along the western border of the continent. 2000 https://bibliotecadigital.exactas.uba.ar/collection/paper/document/paper_00044822_v55_n3_p245_Morello http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12110/paper_00044822_v55_n3_p245_Morello
