This paper examines the importance of explicitly teaching the conventions and discourse genres within university disciplines, highlighting how these practices enhance both linguistic competence and the construction of disciplinary knowledge. It is argued that university students do not necessarily possess the writing skills required to engage in the discursive communities of their disciplines. Therefore, the explicit teaching of academic genres contributes not only to the improvement of writing skills but also to access to the knowledge and practices specific to each field of study. Academic literacy should be understood as a continuous and contextualized process, requiring pedagogical intervention in the classroom to support students in their development as specialized writers. La enseñanza explícita de la escritura académica en la universidad es esencial para garantizar la alfabetización académica de los estudiantes, aspecto crucial en su desarrollo profesional y académico. Este trabajo examina la importancia de enseñar explícitamente las convenciones y géneros discursivos en las disciplinas universitarias, destacando cómo estas prácticas favorecen tanto la competencia lingüística como la construcción del conocimiento disciplinar. Se argumenta que los alumnos universitarios no necesariamente poseen las habilidades de escritura requeridas para participar en las comunidades discursivas de sus disciplinas. Por ello, la enseñanza explícita de géneros académicos contribuye no solo a la mejora de las competencias en la escritura, sino también al acceso a los saberes y las prácticas específicas de cada campo de estudio. La alfabetización académica debe entenderse como un proceso continuo y contextualizado, que requiere de la intervención pedagógica en el aula para apoyar a los educandos en su desarrollo como escritores especializados.
