We ask ourselves which components of Hispanic and Cameroonian culture are included in the textbook under analysis and how they are treated. Our objective is to determine whether the cultural content present in the textbook under study is relevant and sufficient to enable teachers to develop their students' intercultural communication skills. Our findings show that we are still a long way from fully integrating the cultural component into the textbook analysed. We also observe that encyclopaedic cultural content predominates, to the detriment of the cultural patterns underlying communicative interactions that support reflection on one's own culture and that of the target language and promote the development of intercultural competence. En este trabajo analizamos el tratamiento del componente cultural en un manual para la enseñanza del español en la educación secundaria de Camerún. Nos preguntamos qué componentes de la cultura del mundo hispánico y del mundo camerunés vienen recogidos en el manual objeto de análisis y cómo están tratados. Nuestro objetivo es determinar si los contenidos culturales presentes en el libro de texto objeto de estudio son relevantes y suficientes como para permitir al profesorado desarrollar la competencia comunicativa intercultural del alumnado. Los resultados a los que llegamos demuestran que estamos aún muy lejos de la plena integración del componente cultural en el libro de texto analizado. Asimismo, se observa que los contenidos culturales de carácter enciclopédico son los más preponderantes en detrimento de las pautas culturales subyacentes en interacciones comunicativas que sustentan la reflexión sobre la cultura propia y la de la lengua meta, y favorecen el desarrollo de la competencia intercultural.
