description Gender-based violence within higher education institutions is a pressing issue that can be seen in Ecuador. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and associated factors of emotional, physical, academic, and sexual violence against female students in the Faculty of Dentistry at an Ecuadorian University during the period 2022-2023. The study employed the "Perception of mistreatment in medical students during their undergraduate training" tool, administered in print to first to tenth-semester dental students. Data collection took place in January and February 2023, with a sample size of 578 students. The overall findings revealed a high prevalence of violence, with emotional violence being the most prevalent at 72.6%. Physical violence was reported by 40.9% of the participants, while academic and sexual violence were reported by 50.2% and 39% of the students, respectively. Among the perpetrators, dental faculty members accounted for 46.9% of cases. The primary reason for not reporting gender-based violence was the fear that the complaint would yield no results, with 49.1% of respondents citing this concern. The most common reactions to gender-based violence were discomfort, nervousness, and anxiety, reported by 46.2% of the students. In conclusion, this study highlights a high prevalence of emotional, physical, academic, and sexual violence against female students in the Faculty of Dentistry.
