To assess the sustainability of cities, it is important to know what the impacts of past growth have been. Urban climatology focuses on studying the changes that cities generate in meteorological parameters, with urban energy balances (UEB) being the ones that help explain these variations. The objective of this work is to show how the growth of the city of Tandil impacted the UEB in the period 2004-2017. With the WUDAPT methodology, maps of Local Climate Zones were prepared for 2004 and 2017, with which the growth pattern of the city were analyzed. With these classifications, meteorological data and population density data, the UEBs of the city were calculated for each year using the UMEP module in the QGIS 3.4 software. In this way, the effects of urban growth were analyzed and help to infer the effects on the local climatology of the city. The main results obtained showed a growth and expansion of the city towards the surrounding, with the replacement of green areas by built areas of high density and height. Regarding the effects on BEU, an increase in the heat island effect was observed, as a consequence of the increase in sensible heat. On the other hand, the reduction in latent heat reduces the regulatory effect of temperatures, which leads to higher energy requirements to heat and cool environments.
