The findings indicate that while this relationship has strengthened Mendoza’s wine exports and expanded market opportunities for all parties involved, it still faces challenges. These include the difficulty of overcoming logistical and phytosanitary barriers to accessing the Chinese market, as well as Mendoza’s limited production capacity to meet Chinese demand for its products. Despite these obstacles, strengthening this relationship remains a key priority for Mendoza in its efforts to enhance provincial economic development. The study is structured around three main axes: twinning agreements, sociocultural exchanges; trade and investment flows; and opportunities and challenges. Methodologically, this research adopts a case study approach, combining the analysis of primary and secondary sources, including interviews with key actors and official statistics, to characterize the economic dynamics between the provinces. El artículo analiza veinte años de relación entre Mendoza (Argentina) y entidades subnacionales de China (2004-2023), destacando el papel de la política exterior subnacional de la provincia mendocina y las demás provincias chinas en el desarrollo de vínculos económicos y culturales. Los resultados muestran que, si bien esta relación ha impulsado las exportaciones vitivinícolas mendocinas y, también, ha abierto nuevos mercados para todas las partes involucradas, dicha relación aún enfrenta desafíos tales como la dificultad de reducir las barreras logísticas y fitosanitarias de introducir productos a China, además de la limitada capacidad productiva de Mendoza para abastecer la demanda china de sus productos. A pesar de estas dificultades, el fortalecimiento de dicha vinculación sigue siendo un objetivo prioritario para Mendoza en lo que a robustecer su desarrollo económico provincial se refiere. El estudio se estructura en torno a tres ejes: hermanamientos, acuerdos e intercambios socioculturales; flujos comerciales y de inversión; y oportunidades y desafíos. Desde el punto de vista metodológico, este trabajo se trata de un estudio de caso que combina el análisis de fuentes primarias y secundarias, e incluye entrevistas con actores clave y estadísticas oficiales para caracterizar las dinámicas económicas entre las provincias.
