Introduction: the knowledge of personality in university students and the professional skills necessary for
adequate development and performance in professional settings are essential to implement more effective

Objective: Analyze prevalent personality traits according to: Motivational goals, Cognitive modes and
Interpersonal behaviors corresponding to ten cohorts of psychology students (2010-2020).
Method: longitudinal trend design, with descriptive-correlational scope. We worked with two intentional,
non-probabilistic samples, psychology students: MI 2010-2020: 945 students, MII 2020: 48 students.
Instruments: Million Inventory of Personality Styles (MIPS) and Questionnaire for the Evaluation of Transversal
Competencies in University Students.
Results: a personality profile was observed with the sustained presence of the traits of Modification,
Communicativeness and Control, and absence of Accommodation. In the Professional Competencies,
very high frequencies of Interest in Quality, Work Responsibility and Teamwork are evident; and very low
frequencies of Social Responsibility. The Modification and Control traits are those that present associations
with Transversal Professional Competencies.
Conclusions: the profile that characterizes a cohort of psychology students during 10 years of study has been
communicativeness and control in the interpersonal, the active and energetic attitude (modification) in the
motivational, and the sustained absence of passivity and accommodation. Relationships were found with
transversal professional competencies. The implication of the results is discussed. |

Introducción: el conocimiento de la personalidad en estudiantes universitarias y las competencias profesionales necesarias para un adecuado desarrollo y desempeño en los escenarios profesionales, resultan fundamentales para implementar intervenciones académicas más eficaces y potenciadoras de profesionales exitosos. Objetivo: analizar rasgos prevalentes de personalidad según: Metas motivacionales, Modos cognitivos y Conductas interpersonales correspondientes a diez cohortes de estudiantes de psicología (2010-2020). Método: diseño longitudinal de tendencia, con alcance descriptivo-correlacional. Se trabajó con dos muestras de carácter intencional, no probabilísticas, estudiantes de psicología: MI 2010-2020: 945 estudiantes, MII 2020: 48 estudiantes. Instrumentos: Inventario Millon de Estilos de Personalidad (MIPS)) y Cuestionario de Evaluación de Competencias Transversales en Universitario. Resultados: se observó un perfil de personalidad con la presencia sostenida de los rasgos de Modificación, Comunicatividad y Control, y ausencia de Acomodación. En las Competencias Profesionales se evidencia frecuencias muy altas de Interés por la Calidad, Responsabilidad Laboral y Trabajo en Equipo; y frecuencias muy bajas de Responsabilidad Social. Los rasgos Modificación y Control son los que presentan asociaciones con Competencias Profesionales Transversales. Conclusiones: el perfil que caracteriza a una cohorte de estudiantes de psicología durante 10 años de estudio ha sido la comunicatividad y el control en lo interpersonal, la actitud activa y enérgica (modificación) en lo motivacional, y la ausencia sostenida de la pasividad y la acomodación. Se encontraron relaciones con competencias profesionales transversales.
