The topic of road tunnel safety and incident analysis is still under development in the field of traffic engineering. The main goal of this paper is to present the results of statistical analyses conducted over Brazilian road traffic accidents data in tunnel sections, comparing them with the results obtained for open sections at the same roadway, more specifically in BR-101 in Santa Catarina. It is intended that the information can provide a solid basis to foster and justify traffic solutions which may bring greater safety to the users, keeping in mind also the comparison with international results. La construcción de túneles de carretera es una de las soluciones más adecuadas cuando los tramos de carretera son empinados y aporta múltiples beneficios ambientales y económicos. El tema de la seguridad de los túneles de carretera y el análisis de incidentes todavía está en desarrollo en el campo de la ingeniería de tráfico. El objetivo principal de este artículo es presentar los resultados de los análisis estadísticos realizados sobre los datos de accidentes de tránsito en Brasil en tramos de túneles, comparándolos con los resultados obtenidos para tramos abiertos en la misma vía, más específicamente en la BR-101 en Santa Catarina. Se pretende que la información pueda proporcionar una base sólida para fomentar y justificar soluciones de tránsito que traigan mayor seguridad a los usuarios, teniendo en cuenta también la comparación con resultados internacionales. A construção de túneis rodoviários é uma das soluções mais adequadas quando os trechos da estrada são de alto declive e traz diversos benefícios ambientais e econômicos. O tópico da segurança rodoviária de túneis e da análise de incidentes está ainda em desenvolvimento no campo da engenharia de tráfego internacional. O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar resultados de análises estatísticas sobre os dados de acidentes rodoviários brasileiros em túneis, comparando-os com os resultados obtidos para trechos em céu aberto nas mesmas vias, mais especificamente na BR-101 em Santa Catarina. Pretende-se que as informações sirvam de base sólida para fomentar e justificar as soluções de tráfego que trazem maior segurança para os usuários, tendo em vista também a comparação com os resultados internacionais.
