In this essay I propose an analysis of Mimbre exploring what I consider its most relevant elements: light, sound, and place. Through Mimbre these elements mark an inflection point in the history of Chilean cinema and serve for a realization in which, and also operate for a work in which in an intimate and domestic space –the artisan’s workshop–, humans and non-humans presences, living beings and its representations interact, that, as in the creations of “Manzanito”, weave a poetic of space and place. In the eloquent dignity of the Chilean popular world in Santiago of the mid-twentieth century, Mimbre supposes a visual and an aural experience about the creative and daily life of “Manzanito” in his inhabitation. En 1957 el joven cineasta chileno Sergio Bravo realizó un corto documental sobre el artesano Alfredo Manzano, conocido como “Manzanito”, titulado Mimbre. Para su realización contó con la participación de Violeta Parra quien compuso e interpretó la música a partir de las imágenes registradas y editadas por Bravo. En este trabajo propongo un análisis de Mimbre a partir de la exploración de lo que considero son sus elementos basales: luz, sonido y lugar. A través de Mimbre, estos elementos marcan un punto de inflexión en la historia del cine chileno y sirven para una realización en la que, en un íntimo y doméstico espacio –el taller del artesano–, interactúan presencias humanas y no humanas, seres vivos y sus representaciones, que al igual que en las creaciones de “Manzanito”, tejen una poética del espacio y del lugar. En la elocuente dignidad del mundo popular chileno en el Santiago de mediados del siglo XX, Mimbre propone una experiencia visual y aural sobre el vivir creativo y cotidiano de “Manzanito” en su habitar.
