The information provided by both disciplines was reread and new evidence, consisting of an unpublished documentary source of early seventeenth century and new archaeological and ecological contexts reflecting processes of regional environmental instability, was integrated. Problematizing the construction of social space during the Inca and Spanish conquests is our general objective; we also discuss about the impact of both conquering events upon the population located west of Tinogasta. Additionally we argue about the geographical location of the main prehispanic settlements with continuity in colonial times     continuity in colonial times Se trata de un trabajo interdisciplinario que articula información, interrogantes y resultados de la arqueología y la etnohistoria acerca de los pueblos nativos del sector norte de la cuenca del Abaucán en el oeste tinogasteño (Catamarca). La re-lectura de la información existente de ambos campos disciplinarios fue integrada con nuevas evidencias que consisten en: una fuente documental inédita de los comienzos del sigloXVII y nuevos contextos arqueológicos y ecológicos que dan cuenta de procesos de inestabilidad ambiental de alcance regional. Nuestro objetivo general es problematizar sobre la conformación del espacio social, tanto en momentos de la conquista incaica como española, como así también discutir el impacto que tuvieron una y otra sobre las poblaciones locales del oeste tinogasteño. Asimismo, discutimos la localización geográfica de los principales asentamientos prehispánicos que tuvieron continuidad histórica hasta el período colonial.
