Our objective in this paper is to present a semiotic analysis of the version of the Coat of Arms of the City of Buenos Aires by Juan Antonio Spotorno (1937) within the framework of the artistic practices undertaken by Convivio, a group of artists —active between 1927. and c.1947— which was proposed as a forum for discussion and reflection on artistic, literary, religious and cultural issues and problems in general and promoted artistic exhibitions, editorial undertakings and conferences, among other activities. To this end, we firstly make a brief reference to the sources and background of the subject; secondly, we present the analysis, contextualization and co-textualization of the version of the Coat of Arms of the City of Buenos Aires by Juan Antonio Spotorno to, finally, propose an interpretive update of it within the framework of the aesthetic program of the group Convivio. In this sense, it is possible to notice the proposition about the community dimension (conceived as spiritual communitas, i.e. religious, i.e. Catholic) in the version of this Cout of Arms as a sign action destined to counteract secularization, operated on the reading and image of the emblem of the city of Buenos Aires.
