The participants in this study were women and men with at least three years of diagnosis, under ambulatory treatment within the health services system of the city of Buenos Aires . The theoretical stand is a relational gender approach based on two main categories: social construction and hegemony. I use the concepts of illness experience and life trajectories to argue that living with HIV is a construction that confronts social metaphors shaped by gender. This is an ethnographic research that applies combined qualitative techniques: in-depth interviews, participant observation and biographical narratives analysis. The main results display gender differences in the experience of living with HIV and in the perception and confrontation of generized social constructions. Este trabajo discute algunos resultados de una investigación en curso sobre problemas de género en la experiencia cotidiana de vivir con Vih. Los participantes de este estudio son mujeres y varones con más de tres años de diagnóstico, en tratamiento ambulatorio en servicios de salud de la ciudad de Buenos Aires. El punto de partida teórico es un abordaje relacional de género que articula dos categorías principales: construcción social y hegemonía. Este artículo centra en la experiencia cotidiana del cuerpo para sostener que vivir con Vih es una construcción que confronta metáforas sociales modeladas por el género. Este es un estudio etnográfico que implementa técnicas combinadas de entrevistas en profundidad, observación participante y análisis de narrativas biográficas. Los principales resultados ponen en evidencia significativas diferencias de género en la experiencia del padecimiento y en la percepción y confrontación con construcciones sociales generizadas.
