description From an ethnographic approach to social science educational materials produced by the Argentine provinces of Chaco and Santa Fe during 2020 and 2021, we investigate meanings of family, care, and child labor shaped in provincial proposals for educational continuity in an unprecedented scenario. By looking at the classifications, silences, and repetitions in two archives placed in dialogue, we seek to shed light on nuances, modulations, and tensions, in conjunction with current academic debates and evidence from regional research. On the one hand, we consider the roles assigned to the family in the education of children during the pandemic. On the other, we examine care and childhood–in relation to the family, the community, and the environment–and study the links between work and productive and reproductive activities. We conclude that pandemic provincial educational materials redefined the role of the family in education and created tensions between expectations and unequal living conditions.

Desde una aproximación etnográfica a materiales educativos de Ciencias Sociales producidos por las provincias argentinas de Chaco y Santa Fe durante 2020 y 2021, indagamos sentidos sobre familia, cuidado y trabajo infantil configurados en las propuestas provinciales de continuidad educativa en un escenario inédito. Atendiendo a las clasificaciones, silencios e insistencias en dos archivos puestos en diálogo, buscamos iluminar matices, modulaciones y tensiones, en articulación con debates académicos actuales y evidencias de investigaciones regionales. Por un lado, consideramos los roles asignados a la familia en la educación de los/as niños/as en pandemia. Por otro, examinamos el cuidado y la niñez –en relación con la familia, la comunidad y el ambiente– y estudiamos los vínculos entre trabajo y actividades productivas y reproductivas. Concluimos que los materiales educativos provinciales en pandemia redefinieron el rol de la familia en la educación y produjeron tensiones entre expectativas y condiciones desiguales de vida. A partir de uma abordagem etnográfica dos materiais didáticos de Ciências Sociais produzidos pelas províncias argentinas de Chaco e Santa Fé durante 2020 e 2021, investigamos os significados de família, cuidados e trabalho infantil configurados nas propostas provinciais de continuidade educacional em um cenário inédito. Atendendo às classificações, silêncios e repetições em dois arquivos colocados em diálogo, buscamos iluminar nuances, modulações e tensões, em articulação com debates acadêmicos atuais e evidências de pesquisas regionais. Por um lado, consideramos os papéis atribuídos à família na educação das crianças durante a pandemia. Por outro, examinamos o cuidado e a infância – em relação à família, à comunidade e ao ambiente – e estudamos os vínculos entre trabalho e atividades produtivas e reprodutivas. Concluímos que os materiais educativos provinciais durante a pandemia redefiniram o papel da família na educação e geraram tensões entre expectativas e condições de vida desiguais.
