Through the analysis of documents produced by local and provincial institutions in the period between 1815 and 1824, seeks to show that this measure was not necessarily a result of the classic conflict between provincial and local institutions, and that it did not involved a substantial change of the structural patterns, nor in the political representation or in the relationship between city and countryside. The old notion of “Republic”, as "domestic government" located in "many families", serves as a common denominator to explain these continuities, despite the change at the level of institutional language that involved the constitutional organization of the province and the subsequent extinction of their municipal institutions. El presente trabajo procura ofrecer un análisis del proceso histórico que llevó a la extinción de los cabildos en Córdoba, en 1824. A partir de la documentación tanto capitular como de las instituciones provinciales del período que transcurre entre 1815 y 1824, se intenta demostrar que aquella medida no fue necesariamente un resultado de la clásica conflictividad entre instituciones de orden provincial y municipal, así como que la misma no implicó una alteración sustancial de los patrones estructurales de representación política ni de la relación entre ciudad y campaña. La antigua noción de República, como gobierno doméstico en cabeza de “muchas familias”, sirve de común denominador para explicar estas continuidades, a pesar de la mutación a nivel del lenguaje institucional que implicó la organización constitucional de la provincia y la posterior extinción de sus instituciones municipales.
