This article analyzes the economic crisis of 1952, and the implementation and impact of the “Economic Emergency Plan”. Moving away from explanations that holds up that Peronist government initiated a change of course in answer to the severe economic downturn, this article analyzes the making of the first post-war argentine stabilization plan. Based on confidential documents of the economic cabinet led by Alfredo Gómez Morales, we evaluate the essential guidelines of the program, the internal disputes over measures to be taken to deal with recession, and economic and social constraints. In this respect, the article contributes to a broader discussion of the complex linkages between peronism, “populism” and economy. Este artículo analiza la crisis de 1952, la aplicación y el impacto del “Plan de Emergencia Económica”. Tomando distancia de la interpretación que sostiene que el gobierno de Perón inició un cambio de rumbo en respuesta al grave deterioro económico, este trabajo analiza la elaboración y aplicación del primer plan de estabilización de posguerra. Sobre la base de documentos reservados del gabinete económico liderado por Alfredo Gómez Morales, evaluamos las características del programa, las controversias internas en torno a las medidas que debían tomarse para enfrentar la recesión y los condicionantes económicos y sociales. A propósito de ello, este trabajo se propone contribuir a una discusión más amplia sobre los complejos vínculos entre peronismo, ‘populismo’ y economía.
