Sumario:The article analyses the historical evolution of tenancy in a rural district of the Province of Buenos Aires (Coronel Dorrego), from the third part of the 19th century to the  Second World War, as a case in point of the broader phenomenon known as the “consolidation of the hacienda system,” common to the Latin American rural world of the time. It focuses on the farmer’s relationship with the land, through a detailed analysis of the tenancy contracts that can be found in the Justice of the Peace’s archives of the district.
