In such sense the political conflictivity pushes into the scene not only the regional interactions, but it also displays a social complexity that can hardly be reduced to a factious game settled down among the local elite groups or families, as well as their clientelistic relations. Also, the restitution of motives and social profiles that brought that complex web of power relations into being, allows to see the reasons that finally buried the ancient Cuyo jurisdiction. Besides, it enlightens the unknown aspects of a political configuration where the regular forces and civic militias were the fundamental actors. El presente trabajo procura examinar contextos, actores y argumentos que confluyeron de manera simultánea en la fragmentación de la Gobernación de Cuyo durante 1820. En tal sentido, la conflictividad política eleva a un primer plano no solo interacciones regionales significativas sino que también exhibe una complejidad social poco reductible a un juego faccioso dirimido entre grupos o familias de la elites locales y de sus clientelas cautivas. Asimismo, la restitución de móviles y perfiles sociales que dieron origen a ese complejo tejido de relaciones de poder permite apreciar las razones que terminaron sepultando la antigua jurisdicción cuyana como también ilumina aspectos poco conocidos de una configuración política que tuvo a fuerzas regulares y milicias cívicas como actores primordiales.
