To this end, the paper analyzes the lost-lasting dispute between the episcopacy of León and the monastery of Sahagún over the exercise of episcopal jurisdiction in the churches owned by the monastery, considering the ways in which the monastery conditioned and restricted the authority of the bishops in these churches, and identifying the strategies that, in that context, contributed to the materialization of episcopal jurisdiction within the diocesan space. Este trabajo aborda la formación de la diócesis en el norte hispánico poniendo el foco de análisis en la conflictividad que entrañó la implantación de la jurisdicción episcopal sobre las iglesias controladas por centros monásticos. Para ello se analiza la prolongada disputa que desde finales del siglo XI hasta principios del XIV enfrentó al episcopado de León con el monasterio de Sahagún por el ejercicio de la jurisdicción episcopal en las iglesias del monasterio, considerando las formas en que el monasterio condicionó y restringió la autoridad de los obispos en sus iglesias e identificando las estrategias que, en ese marco, favorecieron la materialización de la jurisdicción episcopal dentro del espacio diocesano.
