description It analyzes the various causes of the conflict that arose between the adherents of one religion and another, the occupation of the sacred spaces. We know that the Christians destroyed pagan temples, the plundered, reused building materials and turned them into Christian churches or their own sanctuaries located in the same sacred precincts of the adversaries, but not demolish their buildings. The examples provided by sources are abundant, especially from the second half of the fourth century, with some oscillation in the number of attacks depending on the orientation and religious tolerance of the various emperors, as the imperial constitutiones established the closure of the temples, the confiscation of their treasures and, in some cases, demolition and construction of Christian basilicas on the same land.
