| Sumario: | Medicinal plants are valuable resources in health systems within developing countries. In Argentina, the provinces of Jujuy, Salta and Tucumán stand out for showing the greatest richness in medicinal plants. The aim of this work is to improve the knowledge about the medicinal flora used in the province of Jujuy, mainly in the capital area and surroundings. The studied materials include herbarium specimens and commercial samples. In order to obtain the data, qualitative techniques were used: direct observation, unstructured and semistructured interviews. Botanical species identification and the exomorphological description of the used part of the plants was performed. The applied techniques for endomorphological studies were: starch determination, slight and strong disgregation and obtention of stem slices. Of the total amount of 148 recorded species, 21 of them were selected. Datura ferox, a highly toxic species which may appear as a contaminant was included. The parameters obtained as a result of the study of exo and endo morphological features of the used parts were employed to elaborate keys, which can be applied for their identification through the botanical quality control involving those aspects. The most relevant endomorphological features were trichomes and crystals of calcium oxalate. |
