This thesis focuses on the building conformations of the Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires regarding their Semantic Typologies; with the aim of proposing new perspectives to the approaches already carried out in the field of typological studies.
Understanding "typologies" as classification procedures or criteria within the studied universe that vary depending on the perspective or position adopted at the moment of determining them. And "semantic" as the classifications that are made from this study circle around the "meaning" that the building conformations of the city´s habitat carry or provide.
The proposed viewpoint is characterized as the one that places this "meaning" as a determining factor of a structural order or a classification of the building conformations of the Ciudad de Buenos Aires, aimed at explaining their presence and not a mere description of appearances or features that could approximate or constitute a family or a group. This Thesis proposes that heterogeneity is the main problem in this habitat, from which it is necessary to find an integral explanation that allows its understanding.
This search for an answer is carried out through the formulation of criteria that allow for genuine groupings or cataloging, that is to say, that are certainly explicit as to the causes of diversity; and that at the same time allow for the definition of criteria of kinship or approximation and of differences or oppositions between the units of the universe. Making it possible that, in front of differentiated elements, the aspects that distinguish them and those that they share can be recognized, thus ordering the differences, qualifying and classifying the distinctions. These characteristics allow us to locate the Semantic Typologies within the classification of Prescriptive Typologies and Differentiating Typologies.
In the epistemological order, the research intends to be an instrument that allows a cataloging with theoretical rigor and applicability to the concrete cases analyzed in order to better understand the structure of the habitat that shelters us. In the operational order, the main objective is to enable more effective and appropriate project actions to the contextual circumstances that frame the practices of the habitat. These project actions will penetrate both in the training instance of architects and in professional practice.
Regarding the approach to the subject, it requires precise definitions and constructions of notions and operative instruments such as: typology classification, meaning, oppositional poles, predominant meaning and latent meanings, translation and overlapping of meanings, logics of production and occupation, habitat, categorization of the contexts of both logics. These definitions and constructions, as well as the procedures to recognize and operate them, will be developed throughout the work for their correct understanding.
Finally, this work does not intend to exclude the concern for the multiple shortcomings and inadequacies of the built environment, however, it does not propose the Semantic Typologies as a "habitat critique"; rather, it seeks to be a useful instrument for the future elaboration of a necessary, fundamental and operative "habitat critique". |

Entendiendo las "tipologías", en términos generales, como procedimientos o criterios clasificatorios dentro del universo estudiado que varían dependiendo de la mirada o posición que se adopte al momento de determinarlos. Y "semánticas" en tanto que las clasificaciones que surgen de este estudio se hacen en torno al "sentido" que portan o instituyen las conformaciones edilicias del hábitat de la ciudad. La mirada propuesta se caracteriza como aquella que ubica a este "sentido" como factor determinante de un ordenamiento estructural o clasificación de estas conformaciones edilicias de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, la cuáles están destinadas a la explicación de su presencia y no a una mera descripción de apariencias o rasgos que pudieran aproximar o constituir una familia o grupo. Proponiendo como problemática principal a la heterogeneidad que se presenta en este hábitat, a partir de la cual se plantea como necesidad encontrar una explicación integral que permita su comprensión. Esta búsqueda de respuesta se lleva adelante a través de la formulación de criterios que permitan agrupaciones o catalogaciones genuinas, es decir, que sean ciertamente explícitas en tanto a las causas de la diversidad; y que a la vez permitan definir criterios de parentesco o aproximación y de diferencias u oposiciones entre las unidades del universo. Lo que posibilita que, frente a elementos diferenciados, se puedan reconocer tanto los aspectos que los distinguen como aquellos que comparten, ordenando así las diferencias a partir de la calificación y clasificación de las distinciones. Esta característica es la que permite ubicar a las Tipologías semánticas dentro de la clasificación de Tipologías prescriptivas y Tipologías diferenciadoras. En el orden epistemológico, la investigación pretende ser un instrumento que permita una catalogación con rigurosidad teórica y aplicabilidad a los casos concretos analizados a fin de un mejor entendimiento de la estructura del hábitat que nos alberga. En el orden operativo, el objetivo central es posibilitar acciones proyectuales más eficaces y apropiadas a las circunstancias contextuales que enmarcan las prácticas de producción del hábitat. Dichas acciones proyectuales se inscribirán tanto en la instancia de formación de los arquitectos como en el ejercicio profesional. En tanto al abordaje del tema, este exige definiciones y construcciones precisas de nociones e instrumentos operativos tales como: tipología, clasificación, sentido, polos opositivos, sentido predominante y sentidos latentes, traslación y superposición de sentidos, lógicas de la producción y de la ocupación del hábitat, categorización de los contextos de ambas lógicas. Dichas definiciones y construcciones, así como también los procedimientos para reconocerlas y operarlas, serán desarrolladas a lo largo del trabajo para su correcta comprensión.
