Most of the isolates showed a behavior similar to the type strain, although some characteristics such as the production of hemolysis and the formation of biofilms were strain dependent. Resistance to various antibiotics and virulence was demonstrated in alternative models of infection. In six isolates the reaction detected by the BCESM genomic island was positive and the cable pili system was found in none of them.\nBy means of molecular epidemiology tools, the co-localization of clinical and industrial isolates was observed.\nOn the other hand, the genome of an isolation obtained from a CF patient was sequenced; and a large number of genes associated with virulence and resistance to antibiotics were observed.\nFinally we demonstrate that conjugation methods and electroporation can be used successfully in the genetic manipulation of this species.\nThis knowledge could generate an improvement in the treatment of patients; they allow to point out contaminated products as a potential source of infection; and guide possible future studies with B. contaminans. La mayoría de los aislamientos presentaron comportamientos similares a la cepa tipo, aunque algunas características como la producción de hemólisis y la formación de biofilms resultaron cepa dependientes. Se demostró la resistencia a diversos antibióticos y virulencia en modelos alternativos de infección.
