Este artigo examina três textos curtos de Machado de Assis em que são figuradas mulheres negras (mestiças)1 escravizadas: o conto “Pai contra mãe” (Relíquias da Casa Velha, 1906); o poema narrativo “Sabina” (Americanas, 1875); e o conto “Mariana” (Jornal das Famílias, 1871).
