Then to point out the place he assigns to philosophy –as a preliminary stage to theology and religion– in the Platonic ascension of the soul. It is then shown that Pico’s concept of “philosophy” belongs to the classical Platonic tradition, unlike what happened before with the authors of the Scholastics. Finally, the author presents a personal interpretation of the use of this traditional concept as Pico della Mirandola’s response to the problems of his time.
