The reaction to the challenge of including this system within the public policies was not lineal or homogeneous, and it aimed to encompass different areas simulta-neously and with irregular success. This approach would not be exclusive of the railway sector, but the range of decisions taken to orient such a system make it a key to understand state policies. This article focuses on the control of some variables of the railways’ operational system carried on by the National State in order to understand that system and work on it at once. The revision of this control will allow us to analyze at the same time the institutional framework of the State, its dynamic and its actions. The sources of this research are parliamentary debates, newspapers, institutional archives related to the control or decision over the rail-way sector, quinquennial plans and testimonies. Therefore, we believe that this study of a four-year period, can help to begin to understand the impact of transport policies, generating new questions about this scarcely researched issue. La nacionalización del sistema ferroviario sorprendió al Estado peronista, enfrentándolo a un sistema operativo de enorme y desconocida magnitud. La reacción estatal ante el desafío de sumar el sistema a las políticas públicas en marcha no fue lineal ni homogénea. Este modo de reaccionar no será exclusivo del ámbito ferroviario, pero el alcance de las decisiones que direccionar dicho sistema implicó, lo transforma en un referente de políticas estatales. El presente trabajo intenta hacer centro en el monitoreo que el Estado Nacional realizó sobre ciertas variables vinculadas a la operatoria ferroviaria, en la búsqueda de conocer y actuar sobre el sistema. Este monitoreo nos permitirá observar simultáneamente el entramado institucional puesto en juego por el citado Estado, su dinámica y su proceder.
