This paper aims to contribute to knowledge on primary to secondary transition placing the analysis in the case of Buenos Aires province, by an approach to the issue at two levels of analysis: first, it seeks to identify transition policies at national, federal and provincial level, and its impact on school enrolment in the province under study. Second, it studies the way primary to secondary transition takes place in six secondary schools in the greater Buenos Aires city area (conurbanobonaerense). For this analysis, three elements are taken into consideration: school admission, the projects schools carry out in the seek for inter-institutional articulation, and some of the pedagogical criteria put into play in the first year of secondary level. En Argentina, la transición entre niveles educativos adquirió centralidad en las últimas décadas a partir de la expansión del nivel secundario, la extensión de los años de escolaridad y la ampliación de la obligatoriedad legal. Este artículo busca aproximarse al estudio de la transición de la primaria a la secundaria y sitúa el análisis en la provincia de Buenos Aires. Para tal fin, aborda la cuestión a partir de dos niveles de análisis: en el primero, se propone conocer con mayor detalle la política de transición establecida a nivel nacional y federal y su definición jurisdiccional, a la vez que las formas en que esto ha redundado en la matrícula del nivel en la provincia bajo estudio. En segundo lugar, se analiza la forma que asume la transición de la primaria a la secundaria en seis instituciones de nivel secundario del conurbano bonaerense para conocer algunas formas concretas en que esta transición se realiza.
