Also described are medical inquiries to qualify and explain the origin of the pain and the use of allegories in that work. It is concluded that pain is an element of power for these paliativists, the leitmotiv of their work, their identity and their expertise and their definitions are neither simple nor finished. El artículo trata sobre las construcciones del dolor infantil que realiza un equipo de Cuidados Paliativos Pediátrico de un hospital público especializado de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires. Con un trabajo de campo etnográfico realizado durante el año 2015, se describen las dificultades al tratar el dolor como objeto de intervención/investigación. Se describen además, las indagaciones médicas para cualificar y explicar el origen del dolor y el uso de alegorías en esa labor. Se concluye que el dolor es un elemento de poder para estas paliativistas, el leitmotiv de su trabajo, su identidad y su expertise y sus definiciones no son ni simples ni acabadas.
