Contrary to the expected results, the policies applied had a negative impact both economically and socially: the economy contracted in three of the four years of government, and social indicators, such as poverty, inequality, or job insecurity, deteriorated. The manufacturing sector registered the greatest contraction of the entire economy, and Argentina was, within the countries with a relevant industrial base, the one that most contracted its industrial output per capita. This paper aims to analyze the impact of the macroeconomic and productive policies applied between the end of 2015 and the end of 2019 on the performance of the Argentine industrial sector. First, we study the international context, then the main guidelines of the economic policies -characterized by liberalization and deregulation of markets-, to then analyze in detail the impact that these policies had on variables such as industrial output, industrial business demographics, foreign trade and the business elite.
