These constructions were crystalized through the archaeological materials exhibitions in the local museum. We study the institucional politics carried out since the time of the museum foundation (1939) until the last renovation of the archaeological gallery (1992) at a local scale. Besides we discuss the influence of diffe-rent social agents (collectors, archaeologists and the museum staff) in the classification and interpretation of the archaeological materials. Three instances of organization and interpretation of these remains are distinguished. These include the Museum foundation and the discussions around the institutional project, the organization of the archaeological exhibition with private collections and finally, the last reorganization with the incorporation of materials recovered in archaeological investigations. These instances involved changes in the major historical context, the theoretical discussions and the use of different techniques and concepts that allowed comprehending the lifestyle of the prehispanic groups. Este trabajo analiza los procesos de construcción de diferentes narrativas sobre el pasado indígena en Chascomús que se materializaron en las exposiciones de objetos arqueológicos del Museo Pampeano de la localidad. Se indagan las principales políticas institucionales que se aplicaron través del tiempo y se discute el modo en que coleccionistas, investigadores y personal del Museo participaron en la clasificación e interpretación de los materiales. Se trata de un análisis a escala local y diacrónico que abarca el período comprendido entre los años 1939 (fundación del Museo) y 1992 (último reciclaje de la sala con materiales arqueológicos). Proponemos que existieron tres momentos de organización y reinterpretación de los materiales arqueológicos: la fundación del Museo y las discusiones en torno al proyecto institucional; la creación de un espacio expositivo diferenciado con materiales arqueológicos provenientes de colecciones privadas y por último, su reorganización con nuevos materiales procedentes de investigaciones arqueológicas realizadas con aval del Estado.
