This assemblage is one of the most relevant collections of materials from the region.This collection is being approached from the analysis of several different sources of information like Ambrosetti’s 1907 publication, the catalogs and documentation from the archives of the “J.B. Ambrosetti” Ethnographic Museum and the direct analysis of the materials in this museum and the “E. Casanova” Museum of Tilcara (Jujuy).The goal of this paper is the presentation of a comprehensive view of the current state, the difficulties arising from its analysis, and the potential of this important collection through the examination of the findings and taking into account the different data sources. La arqueología del valle Calchaquí (Salta) se inicia, fundamentalmente, con una serie de investigaciones realizadas en el sitio La Paya a principios del siglo XX. De ellas se obtiene una voluminosa colección de materiales procedentes, principalmente, de la excavación de 203 contextos mayormente funerarios, que es aún en la actualidad la colección de materiales más relevante de la región.Dentro de objetivos más amplios de investigación, se aborda el estudio de esta colección desde el análisis de distintas fuentes de información como la publicación de Ambrosetti de 1907, los catálogos y la documentación de archivo del Museo Etnográfico “J. B. Ambrosetti” y el análisis directo de materiales en este último museo y en el Museo “E.
