This economic practice merged into a single web of relationships different ways of doing until then hold as autonomous economic strategies with independent historical trajectories, articulating in a mutualistic logic the production of plants and animals for consumption (human and animal). The proposal is based on the analysis and interpretation of multiple dimensions of the local record, such as anatomical and taxonomic identifications, osteometry and stable isotope analysis and other lines of inquiry and analysis of microfossils (silicophytolits, starches, etc.) chemical studies of soil (phosphorus, organic matter, pH), radiocarbon dating, spatial analysis and experimental archaeology, along with the application of frameworks and ethnoarchaeological models. Investigaciones recientes han permitido plantear, en el Valle de Ambato, Catamarca, entre los siglos VI y X d.C., la existencia de un entramado de prácticas productivas que incluía y articulaba simultáneamente la cría de plantas y camélidos en un mismo espacio y con una misma infraestructura, constituyendo una única práctica agro-pastoril de producción animal, vegetal y forrajera integral. Esta práctica económica combinó en una misma trama de relaciones modos de hacer ejecutados hasta entonces como estrategias económicas autónomas y con trayectorias históricas independientes, articulando en una lógica mutualista la producción de animales y plantas para el consumo (humano y animal).
