The most important highlights of the existent literature are analyzed from both temporal and disciplinary approaches. This article offers an overview of the foundational studies related to political science and criminal law and underpin the further contributions to this agenda of the most recent political science based investigations. It also sums up the most salient contributions made from the anthropological, historical, sociological and communicational approaches. The main objective is to offer a general view of the studies on public security policies in Buenos Aires, that can help colleagues in dealing with the elaboration of new questions, problems and hypothesis for their researches. El artículo desarrolla una revisión bibliográfica, encarada con perspectiva crítica y multidisciplinaria, de la producción académica relacionada con el fenómeno de la reforma de la organización policial en la Provincia de Buenos Aires (PBA). Los principales hitos de la literatura existente son expuestos en torno a un doble eje temporal-disciplinar. De esta manera, el artículo repasa los aportes pioneros de la política criminal, el derecho y la ciencia política; hilvana las principales líneas de continuidad de los estudios politológicos, y presta particular atención a los desafíos planteados por los más reciente estudios sociológicos, históricos, antropológicos y comunicacionales en relación a las agencias policiales y las políticas de seguridad.
