This research challenged the applicability of closer referents of Andean ethnohistory, to specific problems appearing in the area. At the same time they fluctuated between theoretical frameworks and methodological tools borrowed from Anthropology and History. This reflection upon this production leads to criticism exploring the limits and benefits of interdisciplinary work and to the possibility of finding richer explanation and interpretation contexts in the face of the challenges presented by colonial societies.  Este artículo examina un conjunto de investigaciones focalizadas en las sociedades hispano-indígenas del Noroeste argentino inicialmente encuadradas dentro de la etnohistoria. En su desarrollo estas investigaciones compulsaron la aplicabilidad de los referentes más inmediattos de la producción en etnohistoria andina a los problemas planteados, a la vez que fluctuaron en la utilización de marcos teóricos y herramientas metodológicas de la antropología y la historia.
