Simiand questions the History of events and great characters prevailing until that moment, suggesting the only method possible is the one of Social Sciences, based on statistics and capable of producing abstractions of a scientific type, The debate between History and Social Sciences is renewed in the 1960' by the Annales School and the influential stucturalism movement of those years.  El trabajo presenta el  célebre debate de 1903 entre Françoise Simiand, discípulo de Emile Durkheim, y los historiadores más prestigiosos de fines del siglo XIX, tales como Paul Lacombe, Charles Seignobos, Charles Victor Langlois. Simiand cuestiona la Historia del acontecimiento y de los grandes personajes ue prevalecía hasta el momento y sugiere que el único método posible es el de las Ciencias Sociales, basado en estadísticas y capaz de producir abstracciones de tipo científico.
