The present work contributes to bridge that gap by presenting the results of an investigation that sought to understand how two rural libraries in Colombia, through their reading, writing and orality practices, contribute to the construction of global citizenship. The study was based on a research approach that favors dialogue and the collective construction of knowledge. The results allowed to identify that both libraries build global citizenship by promoting its three fundamental pillars: respect for diversity, solidarity, and a shared sense of humanity. Aunque la relación entre bibliotecas y ciudadanía ha sido ampliamente estudiada, existe un vacío en la producción de conocimiento en torno al vínculo entre bibliotecas y ciudadanía mundial. Este artículo contribuye a superar dicha ausencia al presentar los resultados de una investigación que buscó comprender cómo dos bibliotecas rurales de Colombia, a través de sus prácticas de lectura, escritura y oralidad, aportan a la construcción de ciudadanía mundial. El estudio se apoyó en la sistematización de experiencias, modalidad investigativa que privilegia el diálogo y la construcción colectiva de saberes.
