Some questions that we are trying to answer are: How do these cases affect the population of incarcerated mothers with their children? Why in some cases the daily bond between the imprisoned mother and her child is interrupted at an early stage, if current legislation allows children up to 4 years old to stay with their mothers in prison? The objectives of the research were approached from a qualitative strategy using the case study method, from the survey of files and interviews carried out with victims of this practice and specialists on the subject. These cases may function as a discipline and threat technique for the rest of the population of women incarcerated with their children. At the same time, the devices and knowledge that operate on certain families and childhoods are analyzed, in order to explore the role of the State in cases of institutionalization, relocation and adoptability of children -turned into «minors»- of imprisoned women labeled «bad mothers».  El artículo explora los casos de externación forzosa de hijos/as de mujeres privadas de la libertad en la Unidad 31 del SPF, sucedidos entre 2014 y 2019. Algunos interrogantes que se intenta responder son ¿Cómo actúan estos casos sobre la población de madres privadas de la libertad alojadas con sus hijos/as? ¿Por qué el Estado en algunos casos interrumpe el vínculo cotidiano entre madre privada de la libertad e hijo/a de manera temprana, si la legislación vigente permite que los/as niños/as se alojen con sus madres hasta los 4 años de edad? La investigación es abordada utilizando el método de estudio de caso, a partir del relevamiento de expedientes y de entrevistas efectuadas a víctimas de la práctica de externación y a especialistas en el tema. Se argumenta que estos casos de externación funcionan como técnica de disciplinamiento y de amenaza para el resto de la población de mujeres alojadas con sus hijos/as.
