Loponte, Daniel 2023-07-03 The preliminary results of the analysis of the bone artifact collection from the Cerro Grande de la Isla Los Marinos site (Entre Ríos province), deposited at the Provincial Historical Museum “Dr. Julio Marc” of Rosario, are presented. The collection was recovered by Fernando Gaspary in the mid-20th century and is associated with a chronology that ranges from 660 ± 70 to 460 ± 50 14C years BP. Our study indicates a well-developed bone technology, which includes tools assigned to various morphological groups, such as hollowed points, stemmed points, bipoints, awls, pinshaped implements, smoothers, and possibly, also spatulas and spoons. The most used blanks correspond to long bones of different mammals (e.g. Cervidae, Lama guanicoe, Myocastor coypus), including Homo sapiens, although bird and fish bones have also been identified as raw materials. The analyzed collection reflects an advanced knowledge of bone technology, similar to that observed in archaeological contexts of the middle and lower Paraná basin. This study also highlights the informative potential of materials from museum collections for regional archaeology.
