A finales de la década de 1960, el filósofo alemán Herbert Marcuse propuso la idea de “nueva sensibilidad”, con la cual sintetizó sus reflexiones sobre un conjunto de pensamientos y experiencias que tendían a mantener relaciones críticas con las condiciones de la civilización occidental de la época, con sus lógicas, sus potencias y sus límites. Apropiándonos críticamente de esa idea de Marcuse, proponemos rastrear en dos obras literarias de la época —“Sunflower sutra”, poema de Allen Ginsberg y “Condición previa”, cuento de James Baldwin— modos de procesar las posibilidades de nuevas experiencias que involucraran al cuerpo, la percepción y los vínculos con otros, en pos de definir una serie de rasgos que permitan pensar en qué sentido la creación de un “nuevo ambiente estético” configuraba una parte vital de los deseos de transformación que signaron la década de los ’60.
