Apart of this segregation, numerous musical elements have remained unknown or even suffered extinction. It is in this context that the mention of the marimba in various studies on Afro–Argentine music raises questions about its existence and development in our territory. The objective of this work is to gather the available written and iconographic sources on the Afro–Argentine marimba in order to analyze them and propose a possible reconstruction that brings together the specific organological characteristics of this instrument, which saw its practice discontinued, leading to its disappearance in the territory. Las corrientes actuales de investigación ponen el acento en destacar el ocultamiento sufrido por la cultura africana en la conformación de la identidad argentina. Como parte de esta segregación, numerosos elementos musicales han permanecido desconocidos o, incluso, sufrido su extinción. Es en este contexto que la mención a la marimba en diversas investigaciones acerca de la música afroargentina genera la interpelación sobre su existencia y su devenir en nuestro territorio. El siguiente trabajo tiene como objetivo reunir las fuentes escritas e iconográficas disponibles sobre la marimba afroargentina con el fin de analizarlas y proponer una reconstrucción histórica que aglutine las características organológicas específicas de este instrumento que vio discontinuada su práctica generando la desaparición en el territorio.
